How to fix a tumble dryer that's shaking or vibrating

How to fix a tumble dryer that’s shaking or vibrating

Vibration or movement might cause damage to your tumble dryer and affect its performance. Please see if one of the following will solve the problem.

Check the appliance’s balance

Your tumble dryer needs to stand level and balanced on its feet to function properly. An unbalanced appliance will vibrate and shake during operation. Try rocking your tumble dryer from side to side or back and forth. If it’s rocking a lot, your flooring or appliance's feet may be uneven.

Use a level to check the appliance's balance. If it's off, adjust the feet by reaching under your washing machine and finding the lock nuts on the feet. Loosen them and turn the feet clockwise or counterclockwise, until they’re firmly in contact with the floor. Tighten all lock nuts again by hand.

Make sure the load is evenly distributed

Laundry that’s unevenly distributed inside the drum might cause your tumble dryer to vibrate or shake during operation. This is also the case for single item washes.

If you load a single, relatively heavy item such as a large towel or a blanket, this load will stick to one side of the drum and may cause vibration. To avoid this, always load at least two items with similar weights so that they can create a balance during the spinning process.
