The fridge; perhaps one of our most precious appliances. A food haven, a human heaven. There’s nothing better than coming home after a long day of work and opening the door to a fridge-full of food! Well, since we love food so much, we should probably make sure it lives in a fresh and clean environment. The occasional spill of milk or fruit juice, crumbs from those leftover sandwiches or perhaps the remains of some veggies that have seen better days. From time to time all the little spills accumulate to turn our fridges into not-so-hygienic meat and veg coolers. So why not clean out your fridge this Spring, and let our precious food live how it deserves to live; in sparkling white, food paradise!
Preparation
First of all, you may want to turn the fridge power off – you wouldn’t want to waste energy while cleaning would you? To kick things off, remove all detachable parts from the inside such as the shelves and draws. The glass parts can actually go in the dishwasher! Convenient isn’t it? Be sure to check the fridge manual for the dishwasher-safe parts.
Cleaning the Inside
Wash the plastic parts under the tap with washing up liquid and a sponge, this will be enough to get them sparkling clean, just be careful not to chip or crack any of them! Next, wipe down the inside of the fridge, making sure you don’t use detergent when cleaning the inside. Instead, you can mix half a litre of lukewarm water and one tablespoon of baking soda – nice and simple. Don’t forget to wipe the door seals and clean the water tank too, so the water doesn’t end up smelling or even tasting odd.
Cleaning the Outside
Now, give the outside of the fridge a wipe down with a soft cloth or sponge and then wipe again with a clean cloth to make sure nothing is left behind.
The Final Step
The final thing on the list is simply to replace all the draws and shelves and there you go, food paradise is restored once more!
