What To Watch Out For In Food During Rainy Season
blog

Here comes the monsoon season, and with it, a plethora of illnesses. Homemakers are suggested to take extra precautions in their households to prevent their families and kids from getting sick. Regularly sanitizing spaces at home and maintaining healthy habits for life go a long way.

In support of this, the Department of Health Central Luzon Center for Health Development (DOH CLCHD) has released an advisory for the public informing about the widespread diseases during the rainy season.

While many are aware of the common diseases prevalent during this time, some fail to remember it can root from food and water too. Moms and dads must stay vigilant to guard their families against these risks.

Protect your family from water and food-borne illnesses. We’ve listed below the diseases you should be on the lookout for:

Diarrhea

Diarrhea is associated with frequent, loose, and watery bowel movements and abdominal pain. It can be the result of consuming contaminated food or water, harboring bacteria and parasites. This is why it’s important for all members of the household to be aware of proper food handling and storage. Avoiding this would be easy if the whole family practices proper hygiene.

Typhoid fever

Symptoms of typhoid fever include diarrhea, fatigue, fever, headaches, and pain and discomfort. This is the result of ingestion of Salmonella through compromised food or water. Once in the body, this bacteria will then invade parts of your body and multiply in high numbers. The only way to diagnose it is to have laboratory tests were done that analyze samples of your blood, stool, or urine.

Cholera

According to the World Health Organization, cholera is a global threat to public health. It is an extremely serious disease caused by the bacteria Vibrio cholera through contaminated food and water. The infection then leads to severe diarrhea and dehydration. If left untreated, it can even result in death.

If you’re going to summarize the diseases mentioned above, a commonality they have with each other is they’re all gotten from contamination. This goes to show how important cleanliness and sanitation are.

Don’t wait until it’s too late! Implement proper hygiene protocols and regular cleaning schedules to save your family from contracting water and food-borne illnesses. Buy a refrigerator that can preserve your fresh produce and other food items for longer.
