There are several reasons for water from your refrigerator’s water dispenser to taste bad. See if one of the following will solve the problem.

Release the air in the water line

The water dispenser also needs to have the trapped air in the water line removed when it is first connected or every time the water filter is replaced.

Place a large container below the water dispenser and start pressing and releasing the lever for 5-seconds intervals. Repeat until water begins to flow. Once water starts flowing, continue pressing and releasing the dispenser paddle until a total of 15 litres of water has been dispensed. This will flush the air from the filter and the water dispensing system, ensuring pure and fresh water for drinking.

Change the water filter regularly

Plumbed-in refrigerators use water filters that need to be replaced over time. Check the filter replacement indicator if your appliance has it or consult your manual to see if it needs to be changed. If you’re having trouble finding your manual, download it here using your product’s model number.

Clean the water tank

If you own a refrigerator with a non-plumbed water dispenser, it is a good idea to clean the water tank regularly. Use clear, warm water to clean the water tank.

Make sure your water supply is fresh

The water stored in your refrigerator will become stale over time. This is why you should refill the water tanks in all non-plumbed in refrigerators. To refresh the water tank, activate the water dispenser by pressing a cup against the water dispensing arm. Empty the tank and fill it again.
