Before you start

Installing an appliance can be tricky and even dangerous, so before you start, be sure that you’ve read these warnings and guidelines.

  • Ensure that the electrical mains and water supply are switched off before you start removing your old appliance.
  • Make sure your old/new appliance is unplugged from the mains when you start the removal/installation procedure.
  • Do not connect your new appliance to the mains until all external packaging and protectors have been removed.
  • Leave your new refrigerator to stand vertically for at least 4 hours after delivery to allow compressor oil to settle after delivery.
  • The gasses and oil inside the cooling system are flammable. Make sure that none of the circuits or pipes have been damaged in transit. If you notice there is damage to these, keep the appliance away from any open flames or heat sources and ventilate the room. Then call a qualified engineer.
  • When you receive delivery of your appliance, check that it has not been damaged in transit, and that all parts and accessories are present and correct.
  • Ensure that you have a grounded electrical outlet protected by a fuse available, and which complies with the technical specifications table in the user manual. Do not connect the appliance to an extension cord or multi-plug, and ensure that the power cable does not get pinched or stuck.
  • If you need to replace the plug with one that suits your electrical outlet, be sure to use a plug with a 13A fuse.
  • Never touch a plug with wet hands. Never remove a plug by tugging on the cable—always hold and pull the plug head.
  • Never use steam-cleaning appliances to clean your refrigerator. These can potentially melt ice inside the freezer compartments, and the steam can also cause a short circuit.
  • Make sure that all ventilation openings at the rear of the appliance are unobstructed.

Removing your old appliance

Make sure the water supply (if your old appliance is plumbed in) is switched off and that the electrical supply is switched off at the mains. If the appliance is secured to cupboard units, unscrew any retaining screws. Pull the appliance out from its position. Remember, refrigerators can be heavy, so take care when trying to move yours. To make it easier to pull out the appliance, you can tip it backwards and put a piece of old carpet under its front feet. Then, you can pull the carpet and the appliance out with it. However, most refrigerators have wheels at the rear base, so use these once you’ve pulled the appliance out far enough to be able to tip it back onto these.

You should now have access to the rear of the appliance and be able to disconnect its electrical and water connections (if any). You may need to use a wrench or pliers to loosen the water supply connection. Place a bowl under the water supply tap to catch any leakage. If there is frost in the freezer compartment, this will melt over the next few hours, so be sure to remove as much as you can. Empty any water tanks or ice dispensers as well.

Check local regulations on how to dispose of old household appliances. Your local council or district may offer a collection service. If you are going to remove it yourself, remember that you’ll need another person to help you lift and move your old appliance.

Preparing your new appliance for installation

Consider unpackaging your new appliance before it enters your home or kitchen, as manoeuvring and opening the box can be tricky in restricted spaces. You’ll see a line of large staples along one edge of the box and it’s easiest to tear open the box along this line. Remove any cardboard and Styrofoam.

Then remove all stickers, bubble wrap and tape from the outside of the appliance. Inside, you’ll find the doors, drawers and racks held in place with tape as well, so remove those too.

Note: If your new appliance has a water mains connection, please see our guide on how to install your Beko refrigerator's water connections.

Installing your new appliance

You’ll find the user manual, egg tray and plastic wedges to be fitted at the rear of the appliance in one of the drawers.

On some models, you’ll be able to attach the plastic wedges to the ventilation panel at the rear base of the appliance by hand. However, on some, you’ll need to remove the screws using a screwdriver, then use those screws to secure the wedges in place. The wedges make sure there is enough distance between the wall and the appliance to allow for enough ventilation, so it’s very important that you attach these before moving your new appliance into position.

Before you plug in your appliance and switch it on at the mains, wait at least 4 hours for the compressor gas and liquid to settle. After this period, you’re ready to plug the appliance in and switch it on at the mains.

Next, tilt the refrigerator backwards and use the wheels at the rear base to position the appliance. Take care not to upset any water connections or tangle the mains lead.

Once in position, you’ll need to adjust the front feet of the appliance to make sure it’s level. Your refrigerator needs to stand level and balanced on its feet to function properly. Try rocking the appliance from side to side or back and forth. If it is wobbling too much, your flooring or the appliance's feet may be uneven.

Use a spirit level to check the appliance's balance. If it's off, adjust the feet by reaching under your refrigerator and finding the two front feet. Turn the feet clockwise or anti-clockwise, until they are firmly in contact with the floor.

You’ll need to wait for about 6 hours before you can load any groceries into your new refrigerator, as it needs this time to reach the set temperature.

So, there you have it. You’ve just installed your new Beko refrigerator! We hope you enjoy using your new appliance.
